Baltimore vs Boston Winner?

Boston stays a clear favorite in Game 1 of a rain-made doubleheader

SETTLED · BOSTONat publish

Tuesday’s Orioles–Red Sox game at Fenway Park was washed out, so the clubs play two on Wednesday. Game 1 still prices Boston as a clear favorite while the Red Sox chase a franchise-record win streak on Jake Bennett’s arm.

How this market pays

You’re betting on who wins Game 1 of today’s Orioles–Red Sox doubleheader at Fenway Park — the makeup of Tuesday’s rainout. Only the game winner collects.

Your bet Chance Wins if… $100 bet pays
Boston 61% they win the game, including after extra innings ~$159
Baltimore 40% they win the game, including after extra innings ~$239

If they delay the game but play it within two days, that result still decides the bet. If the game is cancelled, or moved more than two days later, Kalshi ends the market based on where the odds stood — you can get back more or less than you put in, not a full refund and not the full win.

Kalshi confirms the official league result.

How to look at each side

The case for Boston. The Red Sox are at home at Fenway Park on a 14-game winning streak — the longest in Major League Baseball this season — and sit 51-48, third in the American League (AL) East. A Game 1 win would tie Boston’s franchise record of 15 straight, set in 1946; sweeping both games Wednesday would break it. Left-hander Jake Bennett starts — 5 wins and 3 losses, 2.35 earned run average (ERA) in 53⅔ innings — in his first career look at the Orioles. That is the Boston case: the streak, home field, and the clearer starter.

The case for Baltimore. The Orioles are 49-52 and fourth in the AL East, only two games behind Boston in the standings. Right-hander Dean Kremer starts Game 1 — 1 win and 2 losses, 4.15 ERA in 26 innings this season — and he has faced Boston before: 3 wins and 4 losses with a 5.04 ERA across 10 career starts. Catching is thin after Adley Rutschman landed on the injured list with wrist inflammation, and Samuel Basallo has been managing a sore shoulder. That is still the Orioles case: a division rival within reach, a starter who knows this lineup, and a chance to snap the streak before Game 2.

What the odds are saying

Boston at 61% and Baltimore at 40% means the market treats Game 1 as a solid home lean, not a coin flip. That is the first fact to respect.

Traders already priced the rainout and the doubleheader — and still moved Boston from about 55% at midnight ET to 61% into the afternoon. The streak and Bennett’s season ERA are doing the work.

The sticky story is 14 in a row: if Boston wins both Wednesday games, the club breaks the 1946 franchise mark. Those points are real. They are also easy to overweight when the visitor is only two games back in the same division and sends a starter who has worked Fenway before.

2 reasons Boston’s 61% chance can still move:

  1. Kremer has faced this lineup before. Ten career starts against Boston (3-4, 5.04 ERA) are more data than Bennett’s first look — enough for an early Orioles lead to knock the favorite off a clean 60%.
  2. Catching depth is a real drag. Rutschman’s wrist stint on the injured list and Basallo’s sore shoulder cut Baltimore’s usual catching options, but a short Game 1 sample can still go either way if Boston’s bats stay quiet against a right-hander they have seen.

What to watch

Wednesday, July 22, 1:35pm ET: first pitch at Fenway Park, Boston. Kremer vs Bennett (Game 1).
