The NHL’s next Cup board opens with Florida at 13% and Carolina at 11% — a favorite-led field that still prices almost nine chances in ten for someone else.
You’re betting on the team that wins the 2026-27 Stanley Cup. Only the champion’s side gets paid. Every other listed team loses.
| Your bet | Chance | Wins if… | $100 bet pays |
|---|---|---|---|
| Florida Panthers | 13% | Florida wins the 2026-27 Stanley Cup | ~$726 |
| Carolina Hurricanes | 11% | Carolina wins the 2026-27 Stanley Cup | ~$856 |
| Colorado Avalanche | 11% | Colorado wins the 2026-27 Stanley Cup | ~$856 |
| Edmonton Oilers | 8% | Edmonton wins the 2026-27 Stanley Cup | ~$1,175 |
| Vegas Golden Knights | 8% | Vegas wins the 2026-27 Stanley Cup | ~$1,175 |
| Tampa Bay Lightning | 7% | Tampa Bay wins the 2026-27 Stanley Cup | ~$1,342 |
The rest of the league stays on the board. If another team wins the Cup, that side pays and the six names above lose.
The case for Florida. The Panthers sit at 13% after winning the Cup in 2023-24 and 2024-25, then missing the playoffs in 2025-26, per CBS Sports’ offseason wrap. The market is pricing a rebuilt contender, not a defending champion. CBS reported that uniting the Tkachuk brothers shortened Florida’s sportsbook futures; Covers later listed the Panthers near the top of the 2027 board after goaltending and roster moves. At 13%, traders are giving Florida the first line without pretending the Eastern Conference is settled in August, and without forgetting that last season already showed how fast a recent dynasty can fall out of the playoff picture.
The case for Carolina. Carolina is 11% as the reigning champion. Covers’ Cup history table lists the Hurricanes as 2025-26 winners over Vegas. The case for 11% is the same one every new champion gets: recent playoff proof, plus the chance to go back-to-back. The case against a much higher number is also familiar — Cup winners often open as favorites and still face a 30-team field.
The rest of the top field. Colorado is also near 11% on the ask. Edmonton and Vegas sit at 8%, with Vegas coming off a Final appearance. Tampa Bay is 7%. Those names keep the top of the board crowded before training camps open.
Florida at 13% and Carolina at 11% is a thin favorite edge. The top six teams in the pays table already cover most of the serious futures attention, and even then more than half the probability sits outside those six lines.
The useful precedent is Florida’s own recent run. Covers’ table shows the Panthers winning in 2023-24 at roughly +800 pre-playoff odds and again in 2024-25 near +1000, then Carolina taking 2025-26 near +500. Recent Cups have paid teams that were priced as contenders, not locks — which is why a 13% August favorite still leaves most of the money on the field.
3 reasons Florida’s 13% chance can still move:
Training camps and opening-night lineups. Any goaltending clarity in Florida. Carolina’s defense of the title through October. Early standings for Colorado, Edmonton, and Vegas.
